Planet u13s started off the New Year with a comfortable win over local team Palladium FC. With a full squad available for the game Planet started strong and it didn’t take long for their striker Nicky to open his account for the season with a composed finish latching onto Alex’s through ball after David Grindvolds strong tackle. Planets second goal came after a brilliant move down the left between Eoin, Taylor and Nicky with Taylor eventually finding the net to make it 2-0. With Palladium struggling to find a foot in the game Planet were in no mood to lay off the pressure. Another move down the left this time after Daniel Peebles found Taylor out wide with lovely weighted pass, he found Nicky unmarked who slotted into the far corner. Planets fourth goal was an absolute screamer, Eoin looking to find Nicky in the middle but the ball cannoned off the ref and bounced kindly for Leo just inside the opposition half who made no mistake riffling into the far top corner. Planet claimed one more goal just before half time and came from the back of Nicky’s head, a peach of a cross from Taylor after a intricate move from Planet found Nicky who managed to squeeze the ball into the net rather unorthodoxly to give the home team a comfortable 5-0 lead going into the break. Planet made a few changes with Daniel Grace now partnering Dan Peebles at the back and Toto coming on the right side. With the game already tied up and Palladium not offering much going forward Planet seemed to take their foot off the gas and the football was not so pretty in the second half although managing to score three more goals. Substitute Toto scored the sixth for Planet, Leo forcing the keeper to make a mistake and ball dropped for Toto on the edge of the area to simply slot into the open net. Alex was up next after a thunderous strike from Eoin which looked to have come out from the inside post, fell in the box with Alex first to react with a neat finish on his left foot. It was Alex who would finish up the scoring for the day, once again Taylor with the assist after a quick corner caught the Palladium defense sleeping and Alex wrapped up the game leaving Planet with an 8-0 victory. Coach Mark says: The opposition didn’t offer much today which was a shame but you can only beat what’s put in front of you. I thought the team played really in the first period and put together some really good passages of play at times. There were some fantastic team goals, also individual strikes along with good shape at the back so overall happy with the way the first game of the season went. The team understands that this season is much tougher than the last and has some real hard games in front of them which is what we are all looking forward to.
