Two of the league’s strongest teams came up against each other in what turned out to be a very competitive fixture in which the home team claimed victory and a well deserved three points. Leading 2-0 at half time Planet had been the stronger of the two teams in the first period, snuffing out Baan Sri’s talented forwards with some tough defending while Leo grabbed a couple of goals with some composed finishing. First he found the top right corner after latching onto Eoin’s pass wide, then after Nicky’s work down the left Leo managed to nip in front of the keeper to poke the ball into the net for Planets second. It could have been even more comfortable for Planet but Nicky couldn’t convert from close range on two occasions, Taylor tricked his way inside from the left before finding Nicky all alone inside the area but the striker miss hit his shot and the ball span off wide of the post, then after being first to react to Leo’s effort moments later he could only fire straight at the goalkeeper. Planet come out in the second half with only one change to the team, David Grindvold on in place of Dan Grace at the back. Baan Sri started the half with a bit more intensity but found it difficult to break Planets resolve un till mid way through the half when the Baan Sri striker found a couple of yards of space inside the area only to be denied by the outstretched Joe with a fine save down to his right hand post to thwart the danger. By this time the game had upped in tempo and Leo could of scored his hat-trick only to see his close range effort cannon back off the cross bar. Planet looked the more likely scorers and it was Taylor who go their third, Daniel Peebles picked up the ball at the back and played a clever pass inside for Eoin who spotted Taylor making his move down the left, a good first touch opened up the space for composed finish from the wide man. Now in control of the game Planet searched for more goals and Toto nearly made it four but misjudged Leo’s cross. In the dying seconds of the game Baan Sri managed to grab a consolation, a hopeful overhead kick from outside the area should of be dealt with by Joe but somehow managed to creep beyond the post. It was all too little too late and Planet seen out the final minute to claim a third consecutive victory with a 3-1 win. Coach Mark says: We knew it would be a tough game today and would be made to work for a result. Bann Sri is a good team and showed it but Planet thoroughly deserved the win, we were strong in every position and made it difficult for them to create chances keeping shape well. We caused a lot of problems going forward as we have in previous games and we should really have scored a couple more goals with the chances we created. All in all am happy with how the game played out and the performance of each player, well done boys.
